Background

Byung-Woo Hong joined the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, KOREA as an assistant professor on March 1, 2008. His background on the area of Computer Vision and Medical Image Processing started at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel where he studied for his master's (1999-2001) with Prof. Shimon Ullman who is one of the pioneers in the field of Computer Vision. Then, he obtained his D.Phil. (2001-2004) at the Medical Vision Lab in the University of Oxford in the U.K. under the supervision of Prof. Sir Michael Brady who was honourly knighted for his services to Engineering in 2003. Subsequently his research was continued as a post-doctooral researcher (2005-2008) at the Computer Vision Lab in the University of California Los Angeles where Prof. Stefano Soatto who is one of the key figures in the field of Computer Vision is directing.

Research Interests

Prof. Byung-Woo Hong is mainly interested in Computer Vision, Medical Image Processing, Shape Analysis, Image Segmentation, Image Registration, Surface Reconstruction, Level Set Methods, Variational Methods based on Partial Differential Equations, Computer-Aided Diagnosis systems, Denoisying, Texture Modelling, Texture Analysis, Object Recognition, and Machine Learning.
